GAS LEAK
visible GAS DRIP visible under rear of '92 Accord LX, probably from gas tank area. cheapest, safest way to fix? have been told must buy NEW (not used)fuel pump AND "brackets" for same. A mechanic claims it's a 3 hour labor job. Car has 181K miles, any cheaper ways to go?

I would agree that 3 hours is a reasonable estimate to replace a fuel pump, but I am not so sure that the leak points to pump replacement. Maybe there is a fuel hose there that requires the tank be dropped to get at it, and the mechanic thinks it would be smart to replace the pump at the same time. If that's it, I'd say go for it. You really don't want to be scrimping when repairing a fuel leak do you? As long as the guy does a good job and isn't grossly overcharging...
